So Dan and I went camping this past weekend at Lake Texoma. Its a huge lake that is half in Texas, half in Oklahoma. (We were on the Texas side.) We went with some friends who currently live in Dallas, Sarah and Stokes. Now our friends beat us there by a day, but we arrived Friday afternoon to blazing heat and humidity. Now the Stokes crew know how to camp, they have everything, and what they didn't have we brought...which wasn't much if you had seen the amount of gear they have. Now let me tell you something about this park we were at...I think they have 2 rangers per campsite driving around making sure everyone is following the rules. We all believed it to be a little overkill. We had a little encounter with 2 of them our first day over a puppy who was at someones feet not being on a leash and apparently you can't pee in the woods while camping...who would have thought?!?!? Now when I say puppy I am not talking about the watch captain of the weekend Gus. Sarah and Stokes have a new "lab/dalmatian" we will call her, no there is no pit-bull in her at all I swear, puppy named Skillet. (Well her name may or may not have changed to Lucy...not sure on final name.) Anyhow, Skillet is maybe about 10-14 weeks old. She is the cutest most laid back pup I've ever seen. How someone could ever complain about her I have no idea. So Friday night is when the rain showed up and boy did it rain. Not to mention the lightning show we got to watch from our camp side cliff. It was sensational until it was time to try and go to sleep. So Saturday we go fishing and may I just take a moment to brag...I caught the only fish with a fishing pole...please see above picture. Not a keeper, but the only one caught so I'm the bass master thank you! Stokes and Dan caught plenty of catfish off of their trot-line. Saturdays weather was cool and mostly overcast all day, that evening the rain set in again, but not before I had time to cook my all time favorite food....hot dogs, and lots of them! So after we all hung around a campfire that Dan magically made from wet wood, the rain rolls back in so we call it a night. So in the middle of the night the thunderstorms roll in full of lightning and thunder. All of the sudden we all heard a loud crack, and then this ting-ting noise on the trucks...it was hail. I have wanted to see hail so bad since living here, of course from the safety of my home with vehicle's in the garage. So I got to experience my hail storm in a tent. Poor Gus was in his kennel in the back of the truck through all of this, he was a good sport about it. We were told that Skillet never even stirred in the other tent through the storm. The hail was golf ball sized and only lasted a few minutes and then turned back to rain. Baby Robertson I think loves thunderstorms becuase he kicks up his own storm when he hears them. Stokes was famous for walking around the campsite after everyone went to bed to make sure the fort was secured well from racoons, only everytime he did this I thought I was hearing racoons invade....haha. Sarah had been named the officail bar-tender for furture camping excursions, also she is head-chef. I have yet to really want a "drink" since becoming pregnant but it was a little tempting this weekend, those margaritas looked and smelled great!!! (For the record, no I didn't have any.) The weekend was filled with lots of good laughs, great food, and great friends. Overall minus the bad weather we had a great time and can't wait to plan the next trip.
