Wow so I have been doing a terrible job of keeping people up to date on the Robertson's! Let's see where to begin. Well in mid January Liam got sick for the first time. He caught RSV which is basically like a baby bronchitis. The first few days he just seemed to have a cold but it just kept getting worse. We took him to the doctor and they sent us to the hospital and luckily we were there not quite 24 hours. For the first time Dan and I both felt that protective rage come upon us when one nurse was trying to draw blood and was having a hard time finding Liam's vein. I think that somehow Dan and I silently managed to kept each other from jumping across the hospital crib and tackling the nurse. ( I have since heard that it is very difficult to find a vein on infants.) After the very first breathing treatment in the hospital Liam was breathing much better on his own. Now I have been very weary of taking Liam to too many places when they are crowded just because the swine flu was so bad. The only place Liam had been before he got sick was to his 4 month check up at his doctors...damned if you do, damned if you don't. But its alright, now Dan and I have successfully learned how to manage a sick baby and a time where there is nothing that you can do but just love on your little one. We also learned how to handle each other when it comes to our baby. It shocked me that I seemed to be the more silent one and Dan was more vocal about how scary it was, I never in a million years would have guessed we would play those roles the way that we did. Overall though we were really pleased with the children's hospital that we went to. The staff was great and very accommodating.
So not even a week after the hospital Liam and I were off to North Carolina. (Once the doctor gave us the clear that it was ok to travel of course.) Now I had just gotten over being shaken up from taking my baby to the hospital only to next scare myself with flying with Liam for the first time alone. (Dan had to work....guess someone has to bring home the bacon..hehe) So Dan dropped Liam and I off at the airport and off we were. I had watched every TSA video on flying with an infant so I felt like I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. I found that all you need is extra time and you'll be just fine. I was amazed at how many helpful people wanted to help me open or close my stroller when boarding, put my carry on in the overhead compartment for me...it was great. Also can I just say that American Airlines rocked on the way to NC...they moved people around so I could have my own row to stretch out with Liam. They were fantastic. Liam did great on the plane on the way out. Now on the way home lets just say it could have been better....but it could have been worse too.
So while we were in NC I took full advantage of Mimi aka my Mom to help with Liam. I had no idea what to do with all the extra help. Now don't get me wrong, Dan is awesome at helping me with Liam, but at my Mom's house I had 3 extra sets of hands to help. Liam got to meet Boppi aka Micheal. They hit if off from the start:) Liam went for lots of walks with Boppi. The first Saturday that I was home I took off to Virginia with a bunch of girls to help my friend Melissa find her wedding dress. We were successful and the dress is GORGEOUS!!! I got to meet up with friends for lunches and play dates. Liam has a whole new bunch of friends - Miller, Lukas, Jasmine and Silas:) I got to see my best friend Ashley who is like my sister a few times and her family. (I've missed you Libretto's!!!) Liam and I spent a nice long day with my fellow new mom Alex and her son Miller who is only 3 weeks older then Liam. Uncle Steven and Aunt Brooke came down from Delaware to meet Liam. Liam just loves his uncles. Uncle Chance surprising took more interest in Liam then I expected out of a 15 year old boy. Liam loves his uncles! I think that he just loves all the silly faces and voices they make at him. Basically Liam and I had a great time but were glad to come back home to Daddy aka Dan and also Gus. 10 days was a long time to be away. I think that leaving NC this time was a little easier since we will be back in April, June and October for weddings and a visit.
Also since the last post we had Grandma aka Mary out for a visit. She was here for a long weekend over the Valentines Day weekend. Of course Dan and I are kind of chopped liver now that Liam is around. She had a great time playing and helping take care of the little man of the house. We went to the aquarium and out to eat a few times. Its so hard to do too much one when its cold out still and two when there is only so much time. Of course she gets to have Liam for a week long visit starting the end of March so I think that that made it a little easier when it was time for Grandma to head back home.
