Spring time in the heartland means strong thunderstorms, hail and the dreadful tornados. The past 24 hours or so we have been under all kinds of watches and been warned this storm system had the potential to be deadly. Eek! I love that the temperature is more pleasant in the spring after the winter cold, but I fear the twisters. We were very fortunate last night and early this morning that we didn't have any really bad weather. Just lots of rain, wind and lightning. Western/Central Oklahoma, Kansas and parts of Iowa were not so lucky. There have been 5 confirmed deaths in OK. The storm sirens didn't even go off and people were likely sleeping as the midnight tornado hit Woodard OK. It's such a terrible loss. Apparently the sirens worked earlier in the day but not hours later. People think that everyone has storm shelters or basements here and they don't. Around Tulsa the water table is so high hardly anyone has a basement and the permits you have to get to install and shelter on an already built home is crazy. We do not have a shelter. Our plan is to go into the closet in our laundry room or Liam's bedroom closet in the event of a bad enough storm. I just hope and pray we never have to do that. I also hope this will be our last "Tornado Season" in Oklahoma.
On a much lighter note.....Dan, Liam and I all did a 5k yesterday in Stillwater OK where OSU is at Boomer Lake for the Thin Blue Line. The Thin Blue Line is an organization here in OK that supports families of KIA officers. We had about 15 people from the Tulsa FBI office to show support and run. Dan took second place for the mens age group he is in:) Very proud wife moment! Liam and I walked with our pals Leslie and baby Sean. Although Liam did get out of his jogger and he actually ran across the finish line all by himself. Very proud Mommy moment:) Then we all headed over to the world famous Eskimo Joes for lunch with our crew. I was very glad that the weather cleared up just long enough for us to make the drive out there, do our event, eat and get home.
