"It doesn't take a hero to order men into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes into battle." A friend quoted this on Facebook today and it really sat with me for a while. I think that there are a lot of people out there who take for granted what Memorial Day is really about. Some people see it as just a day off of work or a day out of school. It hits much more closer to home then that for me. Memorial Day is supposed to be about honoring our military, post and present. Personally, I'm married to a Marine veteran, the twin sister of a soldier and the granddaughter of two late soldiers. They have all seen war and I believe that it has helped mold them into the great men they are and were. I love that my son is the son of a Marine veteran, the grandson of a late Marine Veteran and a great nephew to a Marine Veteran. Then to top it all off we have so many friends that are great Marines. Some are home right now, some are deployed presently. I just wish that more people could appreciate the selflessness that these men (and women) give so that we can all live with peace and freedom. Most importantly Memorial Day should be for remembering our fallen, the ones who gave everything there is to give. I'm such a lucky girl, I married a hero and my son has a hero for a father. Dan will downplay any attention directed at himself, but its true, he's a modern day hero in my eyes. Thank you Hunny for all your acts of selflessness. We love you! Happy Memorial Day everyone and if you get the chance...thank our military members past and present!!!! (and don't forget the wives that support them, it truely is the hardest job in the world!!!)
